Weekly Update 2/29/10

03/31/10 | by BUCD [mail] | Categories: Announcements, Events

Hey all,
I hope that you all are getting plenty of sleep after a very long, delirium filled weekend in D.C. I also hope that everyone is just as energized as I am to jump back into the College Dem world. Which is perfect because we have tons of great events this week!

BUCD Weekly Meeting, Thursday April 4, 7pm SED 130
This meeting we're trying something a little different. We're going to be having an imaginary primary. We're going to select candidates and create platforms and then campaign for votes. Sound awesome? That's because it is. Where else are you going to be able run in a primary against your friends and compete for votes? At least until we're all running for actual public office that is.
ALSO next week we are having elections for eboard. Which means you need to announce that you're running THIS WEEK.
PLUS anyone interested in running for treasurer needs to attend an AB funding worksheet this week, so if you're interested in running for treasurer contact Esha ASAP.
To help as you're considering running for office, here is a basic summary of the duties of each office:
President
The President, as leader of the College Dems, is responsible for representing BU students in the larger community as well as directing the overall policy and operational direction of the BUCD. The President also determines the calendar of meetings, runs said meetings, and has the power to appoint and fill vacancies on the eboard.

Vice President
The Vice President is responsible for the day-to-day operations of BUCD as well as the long-term operational planning. The Vice President is also in charge of enforcing the duties of the Executive Board and, as should be expected, would assume the office of the President should the current President fail to fulfill their duties.

Secretary
The Secretary is responsible for maintaining policy documentation, voting and attendance records, and other related records of the College Dems. The Secretary assists the VP in managing the daily operations of the Dems and as such oversees all website and email correspondence and makes all reservations.
Treasurer
The Treasurer is responsible for making and managing the BUCD budget and all monetary concerns as well as handling all SAO paperwork.

Campaign Relations Director
The CRD must be in contact with all political campaigns relating to the College Dems on a local, state, and national level as well as all relevant student and non-student organization in the Northeast.

Communication Director
The Communications Director is in charge of the creation and distribution of advertising and publicity, such as making posters, dealing with media, and managing the link table as well as coordinating efforts to represent Democratic ideas in the press.

Census Rally, Aganis Arena, Wednesday March 31, 3-6pm
Join us for a rally on the eve of US Census Day. There will be TONS OF FREE PIZZA AND PRIZES. Bring your friends and pass the word along. Check out the facebook eventhttp://www.facebook.com/event.php?eid=373371224769

College Dems of Massachusetts Convention, April 9-11
CDM convention is coming up! It's a great opportunity to meet other College Dems, get information about potential internship opportunities, listen to awesome speakers, and have a generally good time. Check out the facebook event: http://www.facebook.com/home.php#!/event.php?eid=246938849985

I realize this is a lot to take in, but hopefully not too overwhelming. Also, please consider attending CDM, it's going to be a really great experience, plus we get to spend more time together so how could it get any better?

Weekly Update 2/22/10

02/22/10 | by BUCD [mail] | Categories: Announcements, Events

Hey College Dems!

Another week and another exciting update! Glad to see a bunch of you at last week's screening of Frost/Nixon, it was a great event! Hope to see you at this meeting as we discuss the Health care summit and whatever else happens to be on your mind. Here's our normal list of upcoming events:

BUCD Weekly Meeting, Thurs. Feb. 25, SED 130
Health care is hot again! We'll be discussing the Health care summit and who knows what else? It'll be a surprise!

Democratic Campaign Institute, Feb. 26 & 27, Westin Hotel, Waltham
The Massachusetts Democratic Party is hosting a "Democratic Campaign Institute" the weekend of February 26th at the Westin Hotel in Waltham. An incredibly diverse array of politicos and campaign managers will be presenting in depth workshops on campaign management and grassroots organizing, among other topics. The MDP has given a special opportunity to College Students, by offering a reduced $25 registration fee, compared to the regular of $55.
This is a unique opportunity to get training from our Party's best organizers and get your foot in the door. If you have questions you should contact Gloribell Mota at gmota@massdems.org or 617-776-2676. Also check out www.massdems.org for more info. Or check out our facebook event: http://www.facebook.com/home.php#!/event.php?eid=321689672353

DC Trip, March 25-28!
As I'm sure you all know by now, we will be taking our annual trip to DC from March 25th-28th. We will leave the night of the 25th and return the 28th. On the 26th, we will be visiting the Capitol, the DNC and more! And on the 27th, everyone will be free to explore DC on their own.
We've had a fantastic response to the event and as of right now we've pretty much filled up all of our available spots on the trip. But fear not! If you aren't on the list yet, but would still like to go, let either Esha (erakhit@bu.edu) or Matt Wall (mattwall@bu.edu) know and they can put you on the waiting list in case a spot opens up.

That's about all for this week. See you all at the meeting!
