Hey College Dems!
First off, we would like to congratulate Mayor Menino and City Councillors John Connolly, Stephen Murphy, Ayanna Pressley and Felix Arroyo on their victories! We would ESPECIALLY like to congratulate newly elected Newton Mayor SETTI WARREN! Thank you to everyone who joined us to help Setti win. We did it!
We would also like acknowledge the hard work you all put into defending marriage equality in Maine, into re-electing Governor Corzine in NJ and electing Creigh Deeds as Governor of Virginia. These were difficult losses for the party, but we will recover. If anything, we will work even harder to ensure victory come 2010, when we will have the opportunity to elect another Democratic senator for Massachusetts and re-elect Governor Patrick as well as fight in countless mid-term battles across the nation.
Not all of Tuesday's results (outside of Massachusetts) were bad: Washington state voted to protect domestic partnerships, Bill Owens and John Garamendi were elected to the House in NY-23 and CA-10, respectively.
This week instead of a regular meeting we will be attending a screening of The People Speak http://www.imdb.com/title/tt1156524/, a documentary based on Howard Zinn's A People's History of the United States and produced by Howard Zinn and Matt Damon in conjunction with The History Channel. Howard Zinn will be attending the screening. If you would like to attend, we have a block of seats reserved for the College Dems. Please reply to this email and we will send you a ticket. The documentary is being screened TOMORROW (Thursday November 5th) at Tsai at 7:00pm; doors open at 6:30pm. A few more things:
1. Volunteer and meet Howard Zinn!
The organizers of the Howard Zinn is looking for volunteers. If you are interested (and there's a possibility of meeting Howard Zinn), please email Amanda Bagwill at amanda.bagwill@cegny.com
2. See Rachel Maddow!
Everyone's favorite pundit, Rachel Maddow, will be moderating a panel at the MassHumanities' symposium "Soldiers and Citizens: Military and Civic Culture in America" at BC on November 7th. Her particular panel will take place from 3:45-5:00pm and will also include Andrew Bacevich.

One year ago today, young people across the nation came together to elect Barack Obama to the United State presidency, and we must join together again to support his agenda for healthcare reform. Please if you haven't already, contact your representatives, and sign the Y.I. Want Change petition http://yiwantchange.org/
As always, stay blue, and have a great week!
See you Thursday,
